The prototype stood by a window — and a hen hopped onto its back as if it were a perch. That moment gave the chair its name.
The rear of the back rail and the sides of the seat keep the natural surface of the log, so the character and vigour of the tree remain present.
Domestic tsuga (Japanese hemlock) turns a warm yellow-brown with age and takes on a sheen. It is a simple chair with a gentle presence.
The chair is also made in Japanese red pine, which is rich in resin and develops a deepening lustre.
